Click speed test

Butterfly Click Test

Butterfly clicking uses two fingers on one mouse button. You alternate them so each finger presses in turn, and the button fires roughly twice as often as a normal single-finger click. This test runs for 5 seconds and counts every left click you land.

The technique pushes click rates that a single finger cannot reach, often 15 to 25 clicks per second for practiced players. Start clicking to run the timer, then read the bands below to see where your total lands and how it compares to jitter clicking.

How to read your result

RangeRating
0-40 clicksSlowUnder 40 clicks in 5 seconds is around 8 CPS or less. You are likely still using one finger, or the two fingers are not yet landing in a clean alternating rhythm.
40-60 clicksAverage40 to 60 clicks means 8 to 12 CPS. The butterfly motion is working but the two presses are not fully separated. Focus on relaxing your hand and letting each finger fall in turn.
60-90 clicksFast60 to 90 clicks is 12 to 18 CPS. This is solid butterfly territory. Both fingers register cleanly and your timing is steady across the full window.
90-125 clicksVery fast90 to 125 clicks means 18 to 25 CPS. Very few players sustain this without a mouse that reliably registers both presses. Watch for double-click detection flagging you in games.
125+ clicksElite125 or more clicks is 25 CPS and above. Rates this high often look like an autoclicker to server anti-cheat. Confirm the count is real presses, not one press being read as two.

How butterfly clicking works

Rest two fingers, usually the index and middle, over one mouse button. Instead of tapping with a single finger, you rock between the two so one lifts as the other presses. The button gets a new press from whichever finger is coming down, so the click rate roughly doubles compared to a single finger. The motion should feel like a light drum roll, not a hard mash. It depends on a mouse that registers both presses as separate clicks. If your mouse debounces closely spaced presses, the second click gets swallowed and your count drops.

Butterfly vs jitter clicking

Jitter clicking uses one finger and a tensed arm to shake the mouse, firing rapid clicks from a single point of contact. Butterfly uses two alternating fingers. The tradeoff is simple: butterfly is faster because two fingers beat one, but jitter keeps your aim steadier because your hand is not rocking side to side. Players who need to click fast and track a target at the same time often prefer jitter. Players chasing a raw CPS number reach for butterfly.

Why Minecraft servers ban or flag it

Many Minecraft PvP servers set a CPS ceiling or run anti-cheat that watches click patterns. Butterfly clicking pushes CPS so high that it can trip double-click detection, where two presses land close enough together to look like one physical action reported twice. To a server that reads like an autoclicker or a hardware fault, and it can get you flagged or banned even when you are clicking by hand. Check a server's rules before you use butterfly in ranked play. Some allow it, some cap CPS, some ban it outright.

Wear on your mouse switch

Every click is a physical press on a mechanical switch rated for a limited number of actuations. Butterfly clicking doubles your click count, so you reach that limit sooner. The more common failure you will notice is double-clicking: a worn switch starts registering one press as two, which ruins normal use and inflates your test count with clicks you did not mean. If your total here looks impossibly high, a tired switch may be adding phantom presses. That is a sign the switch is wearing out.

Questions and answers

What is a good butterfly click score in 5 seconds?

On our own scale, 60 to 90 clicks (12 to 18 CPS) is a fast, clean butterfly run. Above 90 clicks (18 CPS and up) is very fast and hard to sustain without a mouse that registers both presses reliably. These bands are our rating, not an official standard.

How is butterfly clicking different from jitter clicking?

Butterfly uses two fingers alternating on one button, which makes it faster. Jitter uses one finger and a tensed arm, which keeps your aim steadier. Butterfly wins on raw speed, jitter wins on accuracy while tracking a target.

Will butterfly clicking get me banned on Minecraft servers?

It can. High butterfly CPS can trip double-click detection and look like an autoclicker to anti-cheat, so some servers cap CPS or ban the technique. Check each server's rules before using it in ranked play.

Why is my click count lower than I expected?

Your mouse may be debouncing, meaning it merges two closely spaced presses into one and drops the second click. Butterfly clicking depends on a mouse that reports both presses separately. A mouse that filters fast presses will cap your count.

Does butterfly clicking damage my mouse?

It wears the switch faster because you are firing twice as many clicks. The switch has a limited number of presses in it. A worn switch often starts double-clicking on its own, which harms normal use and can inflate your test count with presses you did not make.

How many clicks per second does butterfly clicking reach?

Practiced players often land 15 to 25 CPS with butterfly clicking, well above a single finger. Over a 5 second test that is roughly 75 to 125 total clicks, assuming your mouse registers every press.
