Reaction time tests: how fast do you respond?
A reaction time test measures the gap between a signal and your click. You wait, the screen turns green, you click as fast as you can. The result comes back in milliseconds. Most people land somewhere between 200 and 300 ms, and the average sits near 250 ms.
This is the test for gamers tuning their reflexes for shooters, fighting games, or anything where a split second decides the round. It is also a simple way to compare yourself over time or against friends. The number reflects both your brain and your input lag, so a slow score can point at your screen or mouse as much as your hand.
Click speed and CPS tests: how fast can you click?
CPS stands for clicks per second. These tests give you a set time window, count every click, and report your rate. The standard run is short, but you can also pick longer windows if you want to measure stamina instead of a burst.
There is more than one way to click fast, so there is more than one test. Regular clicking is one hand, one finger. Jitter clicking uses arm tension to shake out extra clicks. Butterfly clicking alternates two fingers on the same button. There are right click and long duration versions too. Minecraft PvP players use these to see whether their combo speed holds up. If your CPS suddenly drops, the problem is often the mouse, not you, which is a good reason to run a click speed test on any mouse you are thinking of replacing.
Spacebar and scroll wheel tests: keyboard and mouse checks
The spacebar counter works like a CPS test but for your keyboard. Press the space bar as fast as you can and it counts the presses over your chosen time. Minecraft players use it to measure jump speed for bridging and jump crits. It also tells you fast whether a sticky or worn spacebar is dropping inputs.
Scroll wheel tests spin the other way. One checks how fast you can scroll, useful for weapon switching in games bound to the wheel. Another is a fault check: scroll steadily and watch for skips or reversed steps, the classic sign of a dirty or failing encoder. If your wheel has started jumping the wrong direction, this is the tool that confirms it before you open a support ticket or buy a new mouse.
Questions and answers
What is a good reaction time?
For a simple visual test, anything under 250 ms is solid and under 200 ms is fast. The average adult sits around 250 ms. Your monitor and mouse add lag on top of your own response, so hardware affects the number too.
What counts as a good CPS score?
Around 6 to 7 clicks per second is average for regular clicking. Past 8 is fast. Jitter and butterfly techniques can push much higher, sometimes into double digits, but they take practice and can strain your hand.
Do these tests work on my phone?
The click and reaction tests work on touchscreens, since a tap counts as a click. The spacebar and scroll wheel tests need a physical keyboard and mouse, so those are made for desktop and laptop.
Can these tools check if my mouse or keyboard is broken?
