Moon Rover is a low-gravity driving game. You bounce a lunar rover across endless crater ridges, and because the moon's gravity is so light, every rise you drive off turns into a long, slow, floaty jump. Between the ridges are craters you have to clear, so you carry speed off each launch and glide across the gap. Come up short and you drop into the crater, which ends the run. It is a driving game with a hang-time all its own.

It is a self-built game made by PlayClick, our own take on the physics driver. It is not affiliated with any other rover or driving game, and it uses our own vehicle and code. It runs right in your browser with no sign-up and no download, so it plays the same on a school Chromebook as it does at home.

How to play

Press gas to drive right across the surface, brake to slow down. The rover handles nothing like a heavy truck, it is light and the gravity is low, so it floats. Distance is the score.

The craters are the hazard. Where the ground runs out, you have to be carrying enough speed off the near edge to glide across to the far side. Land on solid ground and keep rolling. Come up short and you fall into the crater, and the run is over.

Because gravity is so low, you get a lot of air off every ridge, not just the craters. Use that time to line up a level landing with gas and brake, because coming down nose-first or on your roof ends the run too.

Controls

On a keyboard, press the Right arrow or D for gas, and the Left arrow or A to brake and reverse.

The low gravity changes the feel completely. On the ground the rover has less grip, so it takes longer to build speed. In the air you hang for a long time, so you have plenty of room to rotate: gas spins the rover backward, brake spins it forward. Use it to get the wheels back under you before a landing or a crater edge.

On a phone or tablet, use the GAS button on the right and the BRAKE button on the left. There is nothing to install and no keyboard needed.

How to clear the craters

Speed is what carries you across. Build up on the flat and the downhills so you hit each crater edge fast, and the low gravity does the rest, floating you to the far side.

Use the ridges as ramps. A rise just before a crater launches you upward as well as forward, which gives you more hang time to clear a wide gap. Time your speed so you meet that rise with momentum.

Land level. With so much air time it is easy to over-rotate. Watch which way the rover is spinning and feed in gas or brake early, so you come down with both wheels ready rather than fighting it at the last second.

Scoring and your best run

Your score is the distance you roll in meters, and long air time and clean flips add bonus points, which the low gravity makes easy to rack up. Your best is saved on your device so you can chase it.

The ridges get taller and the craters wider the farther you go, so late gaps need more speed and cleaner launches to clear. That is where a long run turns into a real test of momentum and timing.

Your best distance sits at the top of the screen the whole time, waiting to be beaten.

Questions and answers

What is Moon Rover?

It is a free low-gravity 2D driving game where you bounce a lunar rover across crater ridges and clear the craters with long floaty jumps. Fall into a crater or land on your roof and the run ends. The score is how far you get. It is PlayClick's own game, not affiliated with any other rover or driving game.

Why does it feel so floaty?

The gravity is set low, like the moon, so the rover hangs in the air much longer than a normal car. Every ridge launches you into a long, slow jump, which is the whole feel of the game and how you clear the craters.

How do I clear the craters?

Carry speed. Build up on the flat and the downhills so you hit each crater edge fast, and use the ridge just before a crater as a ramp for extra hang time. The low gravity floats you across if you come in with momentum.

How do I control the rover?

Press the Right arrow or D for gas, and the Left arrow or A to brake. In the air you hang for a long time, so use gas to spin backward and brake to spin forward and line up a level landing. On a phone, use the GAS and BRAKE buttons.

Is it free and does it work unblocked at school?

Yes. The game is free, needs no sign-up, and runs fully in your browser, so it plays the same on a school or work network as anywhere else. There is nothing to download. We are not a proxy, so if your network blocks this exact site we cannot get around that.
