Daily Eight: The 8 Word Game

Daily Eight #243 · Sep 1

Green solved here · yellow somewhere · dark nowhere left

This is an eight-word game. You solve eight hidden five-letter words at the same time, and every guess you type lands on all eight boards at once. You get thirteen tries to clear the whole set.

It is a self-built game made by PlayClick, our own take on the solve-many-at-once format. It is not Octordle and it is not affiliated with Octordle or any other brand. Same idea of eight words in one sitting, our own word list, our own daily pick. One shared set goes live each day and resets at midnight UTC.

How to play

  1. Type any real five-letter word and press Enter. Your guess is scored against all eight boards.
  2. On each board, green means the letter is correct and in the right spot.
  3. Yellow means the letter is in that board's word but sits in the wrong spot.
  4. Gray means the letter is not in that board's word.
  5. A board locks as soon as you solve its word, and your remaining boards keep going.
  6. The shared keyboard reads all eight boards at once: a key turns green when the letter is a known hit on any unsolved board, yellow when it belongs somewhere, and dark only when it is dead on every board still open.
  7. Clear all eight words within thirteen guesses to win the day. Your played count, win rate, streak, and how many guesses it took are kept on your device.

How the eight-word game works

You are playing eight boards side by side, each hiding its own five-letter word. There is one shared input, so when you enter a guess it is checked against all eight answers and every board colors its row on its own. A tile is green when the letter is right and in the right place for that board, yellow when the letter is in that board's word but in another spot, and gray when the letter is not there.

The same letter can be green on one board and gray on the next, because each board has a different word. That is the whole puzzle. You read eight sets of feedback from a single line of typing and decide where to aim next. A board stops taking guesses the moment you solve it, so the load gets lighter as you go.

Thirteen guesses for eight words means five spare lines over the bare minimum. That cushion is enough to recover from a slow start if you read the colors carefully and do not waste turns.

Strategy for solving eight at once

Open wide. Your first two or three guesses should burn through common letters rather than chase any single board. Words like SLATE, then a fresh word such as CORNy or ROUND with new letters, tell you a lot about all eight answers before you commit to one.

After the openers, look for the board that is closest to done and finish it while the information is fresh. Locking boards early shrinks the puzzle and frees up guesses for the stubborn ones. Watch for letters that are green on one board but missing on others, and keep a rough note of which boards still need vowels.

Do not tunnel on the hardest board while the timer of guesses ticks down. Spread early, close the easy boards, and save your last few lines for the one or two words that are fighting you.

Looking for an Octordle alternative

If you came here after playing Octordle and wanted another eight-word puzzle, this is one. We built our own version with the same core idea, eight words solved together, so the muscle memory carries straight over. What is different is the word list and the code, which are ours, and the honest fact that we are not Octordle and not tied to it.

Because the format is our own build, we can keep it clean and fast with no sign-up and no download. You get a fresh set of eight every day, a companion answer page for when you get stuck, and a full archive of past days. It is meant to be the eight-word game you play when you want the challenge without the brand attached.

One shared set a day

There is one set of eight words for everyone, and it changes at midnight UTC. The whole world is working on the same eight boards on the same day, so you can compare how many you cleared and in how many guesses without spoiling anything.

The one-a-day limit keeps it light. You get one honest attempt at the set, you finish, and you come back tomorrow. If you miss a day, there is no backlog to clear. A new set of eight is always waiting, and the answer and archive pages are there if you want to check a day you skipped.

Questions and answers

What is the eight-word game?

It is a daily puzzle where you solve eight hidden five-letter words at the same time. Every guess you type is scored against all eight boards, and you have thirteen guesses to clear the whole set.

Is this Octordle?

No. This is PlayClick's own eight-word game, built by us with our own word list and our own code. It is not Octordle and it is not affiliated with Octordle or any other brand. It uses the same idea of solving eight words at once.

How many guesses do I get?

Thirteen. That is one guess per board plus five to spare. Each guess must be a real five-letter word and is applied to all eight boards at the same time.

Why is a letter green on one board and gray on another?

Each of the eight boards hides a different word, so the same letter can be correct on one board and missing on another. You read eight separate sets of color feedback from one guess.

Does everyone get the same eight words?

Yes. There is one shared set of eight words per day for every player, reset at midnight UTC. That way you can compare how many you solved and in how many guesses.

What is a good opening word?

Start with common-letter words like SLATE or CRANE, then play a second and third guess with fresh letters such as ROUND or DAMP. Wide openers reveal information across all eight boards before you commit to finishing one.

Can I play more than once a day?

There is one set of eight per day by design. The single daily set is the point, and it keeps the game fair for everyone. Come back tomorrow for a new set, or visit the archive to see past days.
