Bobble Spike is a 2-player arcade volleyball game. Two big-headed players stay on their own side of a net and rally the ball back and forth. Let it hit the floor on your side and the other player wins the point. First to seven takes the match. Play a friend on one keyboard or take on the computer.
It is a self-built game made by PlayClick, our own take on the arcade sports format, running on the same physics engine as our other Bobble Sports games. It is not affiliated with any other volleyball game or brand. It runs in your browser with no sign-up and no download, so it plays the same on a school Chromebook as at home.
How to play
A net stands in the middle and neither player can cross it. The ball floats a little slower than in our other games, so rallies hang in the air and give you time to line up. Move under the ball, jump, and spike it over the net so it lands on the other side.
You score when the ball touches the floor on the opponent's side. If it lands on your side, they get the point. After each point the ball serves from above the player who was scored on, with a short countdown, so the loser of the rally gets the next serve.
Because a jumping hit adds your leap to the ball, a spike taken at the top of your jump comes down steep and fast, which is the hardest kind to return. First to seven points wins.
Controls and modes
Player 1 uses A and D to move, W to jump, and S to spike. Player 2, in two-player mode, uses the arrow keys to move and jump and the down arrow to spike. On a phone, on-screen buttons appear at the bottom corners so you can play with no keyboard.
In one-player mode you face the computer at Easy, Medium, or Hard. Easy gives you long, gentle rallies, while Hard covers its side quickly and puts the ball away, so you will need sharp spikes and good positioning to win.
Two-player mode shares one keyboard between you and a friend, one on each side of the net, racing to seven. Switch modes or difficulty any time, and hit rematch after a win.
Tips to win
Spike at the peak. Jumping into the ball at the top of your leap sends it down steep and fast on the far side, where a flat hit floats long and easy to return.
Stay under the ball. Since the ball hangs in the air, most points are lost by being caught out of position when it drops, not by a great spike. Track where it will land and get there early.
Aim for the deep corners and the space right at the net. A soft touch that drops just over the net catches an opponent who backed up for a spike, while a hard spike to the back corner beats one who crept in. Mixing the two keeps them guessing.
